Tea Tree Oil

So excited to be writing about natural beauty and healing yourself and all that good stuff. I will post only once a week on this blog but hope to fill it with lots and lots of really good information, things I hope will help you to take the best care of yourself possible.

I'm not going to have set topics, it'll be different every Saturday. I'll try to name the blogs appropriately so you can find topics that interest you easily.

Today I want to write about an essential oil that is really amazing and not to expensive.

That oil is Tea Tree Oil. I use it for so many different things.

Tea tree oil is an essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a plant native to Australia.

Historically, the leaves were used as a substitute for tea, which is how tea tree oil got its name. The part used medicinally is the oil from the leaves.

Tea tree oil contains consituents called terpenoids, which have been found to have antiseptic and antifungal activity. The compound terpinen-4-ol is the most abundant and is thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil's antimicrobial activity.

Tea tree oil is used for, but not limited to, the following conditions:

Acne
Athlete's Foot
Fungal Infection of the toenails
Dandruff
Vaginitis
Thrush
Periodontal Disease

I use it in a toner I make for my face. I'm going to share that recipe with you because it is fabulous. I love what it does for my skin and my 12 year old daugther, who is just beginning with a small amount of acne on her nose and forhead uses it with great results also.

I also use it in one of my products called Piggy Peace. It serves as an antifungal. A friend of mine was experiencing a very dry scalp and itching and used the Piggy Peace on his head and it cleared it up.

I use it in a hair treatment which I'll also provide the recipe for, once a month for dry, itching scalp.

The toner can be used anywhere you have bug bites or itching for any reason. I recently starting shaving my va-jj, if you know what I mean, and the hair growing back caused horrible itching, not to mention the razor burn. I applied the toner to see what would happen and it worked!!

You take one half of a large cucumber (I'll write about cucumbers another time) and juice it. Then set the juice through a strainer to get rid of any remaining pulp. Pour this into the container you'll be using. Add 3 tbsp distilled water and 3 tbsp witch hazel. To this, I add 10 drops of tea tree oil. Keep refrigerated and shake before each use. The toner usually lasts about 2 months.

For a scalp treatment, I blend one avocado, one banana, one tbsp honey, 1/4 c sweet almond oil, 5 drops peppermint essential oil and 10 drops tea tree oil. I put the mash on my head, working deeply into the scalp. Once my scalp is covered and mixture is worked in well, I put plastic wrap over my head and let it sit for 30 minutes. The peppermint will stimulate your scalp and make it tingle. The tea tree works on the itching and dryness.

Google the benefits of tea tree and you can google for recipes too for different ailments. This is one essential oil I always have on hand!!
